Camera M 5.3 Camera Profiles Update
A pro way to select the best camera to help you capture the absolutely perfect moment.
Back in 2017, with Camera M version 1.0, we introduced 'Camera Specifications' — A simple way to view essential information about each camera your device includes. With this significant update, we decided to bring that information to the forefront with a new camera switcher panel.
How to Get There
A long press on the camera choice button will open the usual camera picker, but now, there is a new 'More Info' button, which opens the Camera Profiles panel.
When the panel animates into view, we make sure to clear the interface of any other unnecessary elements to help you focus on camera selection — only the camera preview and Camera Profiles panel are present.
What Information is Displayed
Zoom factor based on the standard wide-angle camera
Focal length in 35 mm equivalent
Field of view in degrees (vertical in portrait, horizontal in landscape)
Fixed lens aperture
Image sensor pixel count in megapixels
Manual focus adjustment capability
Tap-to-focus capability
Focus range from minimum to maximum focus distance
Manual exposure capability
Native ISO range from minimum to maximum
Native exposure duration range from minimum to maximum in seconds
Manual white balance adjustment capability
Manual gray card white balance calibration capability
RAW and ProRAW capture capabilities
We put a lot of effort into what information should be displayed and how. However, we also had to make sure that information is glanceable in order to make a quick camera choice.
Have Siri show it for you
You can also enable a Siri Shortcut from Camera M Settings, which would allow you to invoke Camera Profiles by just using ‘Hey Siri’, hands-free.
Also on iPad
Camera Profiles is also available on iPad — which includes iPad Pro and all other iPad models that with Camera M is currently compatible. Again, we made sure the panel displays ergonomically over the main control panel for easier access.
An Accessible Camera
For Camera M 5.3.1, we were finally able to include our extensive improvements to make Camera M more accessible.
- Camera M now adheres to Dynamic Type and Bold Text settings throughout the app, including the new Camera Profiles, manual control adjustment labels, and also our great Home Screen Widgets.
- The Increase Contrast accessibility setting now makes the camera grid and the levels become more prominent along with more interface elements becoming less transparent.
- Also, the Reduce Transparency setting makes semi-transparent interface elements more opaque.
We will be focusing heavily on adding and improving accessibility features in the future updates.
